Eliminating the Atlantic, the first exhibition held by the DESTE Foundation in the city of Thessaloniki, addresses the issue of intellectual communication through the language of contemporary art. Featuring works from the Dakis Joannou Collection by a mixture of European and American artists, this exhibition imprints two tendencies that correspond to the two banks of the Atlantic.
The exhibition reveals a large part of the reality of the decade that has just ended. Aided by modern technology and communications, the artist today is in a position that enables him to eliminate political and cultural differences as well as national and natural borders. Although each artist in the show eliminates these differences, creating a common identity amongst both Western cultures, Eliminating the Atlantic also highlights the particularity of each work, emphasizing the universality of contemporary art.
Eliminating the Atlantic is organized by the DESTE Foundation in collaboration with the Port Authority of Thessaloniki.
