JULIAN GERMAIN: IN SOCCER WONDERLAND

DESTE FOUNDATION, NEO PSYCHICO, ATHENS 31.3.1999-16.5.1999

The work of Julian Germain combines different kinds of photography with his own works, material from newspaper archives, and family snapshots. The images in the exhibition represent the artist’s personal view of soccer and relate to both the reality and myths of the sport. The exhibition deals with the emotional aspects of the game – the romanticism, fantasy, dreams, hopes, fears, rituals, traditions, and memories of soccer fans. The works are presented in frames made from resin with miniature cups on them as well as a material made from grass and mud, surrounded by cards and soccer snapshots from albums.

Organized by the British Council in collaboration with the DESTE Foundation.
