GLOBAL VISION: NEW ART FROM THE ’90s (Vol. III)

PUBLISHED BY THE DESTE FOUNDATION

The DESTE Foundation inaugurates its new space in Neo Psychico with the exhibition Global Vision: New Art from the 90’s, which will be held in three parts and features recent acquisitions from the Dakis Joannou Collection. The show reflects the individualistic tendencies of art in the 90’s and includes works by Dimitrios Antonitsis, Matthew Barney, Montien Boonma, Cai Guo Qiang, Nikos Charalambidis, Rineke Dijkstra, Anna Gaskell, Johan Grimonprez, Kcho, Mariko Mori, Chris Ofili, Alexandros Psychoulis, Pipilotti Rist, Yinka Shonibare, Shazia Sikander, Jocelyn Taylor, Kara Walker, Nari Ward, and Chen Zhen. The selection of such a diverse group of artists aims to reflect the cultural diversity and plurality of languages employed in the art of today and examines how the artist constructs an interior world which transcends geographical and national boundaries. In an attempt to stimulate an intercultural dialogue and affirm the articulation of selfhood, Global Vision addresses issues of individual and collective identity, colonial and national heritage, hybridity and homogeneity, universality and locality.
